JV, Freshmen defeat Wills Point

Both the junior varsity and freshmen Bears defensive units pitched first-half shutouts in route to defeating their Wills Point opponents Thursday, Sept. 17.
For the freshmen, that shutout lasted for the entire game, while the JV gave up a touchdown in the final period of its game after everything had already been decided.
JV 28, Wills Point 6
It didn't take long for the Bears to open the scoring in the nightcap of the two games held Sept. 17.
Mikey Ramirez broke free for a 62-yard run about a minute into the game, as Brownsboro opened up an 8-0 lead.
Kris Bryant picked off a Wills Point pass at the 2:53 mark, a takeaway that would set up D.Z. Moss' one-yard touchdown run just over a minut later.
Brett Conner hit Will Spradley on a pass play for the 2-point conversion and a 16-0 lead.
Brownsboro was driving at the midway point of the second quarter when a fumble at the Wills Point 1-yard line blunted that drive, but Moss returned the favor by intercepting a Tigers pass at the Brownsboro 3-yard line to stop a Wills Point drive with 16 seconds to go until half-time.
An exchange of turnovers marked the beginning of the second half, with Brownsboro blocking a punt and recovering it at the Wills Point 17. But two plays later, the Bears fumbled it back to the Tigers at the 16.
After forcing another Wills Point punt, Ramirez broke off another long run, this time for 51 yards and the score at the 5:57 mark of the third period and a 22-0 lead.
The Tigers cut the lead to 22-6 with a seven-yard scoring pass with 7:45 left in the game.
The Bears closed out the scoring with a final drive ending with a six-yard scoring run by Ramirez, his third touchdown of the game, with 1:25 left on the clock.
Freshmen 26, Wills Point 0
A 14-point second quarter, combined with a solid defensive effort, propeled the frehmen Bears to a win over the Wills Point Tigers Sept. 17.
After a scoreless first period, Shelby Rogers hit Patrick McCarthy on a 17-yard scoring play, then hit Cesar Gutierez on the 2-point pass, all with just under nine minutes left in the second period.
Rick Francis added a 10-yard touchdown run with 24 seconds left in the half, a 14-0 lead the Bears took into half-time.
Trevion Pace broke a long run of 58 yards for the Bears third score of the game and Kevin Elder caught a 22-yard pass from Rogers for the final score.
