LAKE PALESTINE UMC
Sunday proved to be a busy and a fun day for the members of the Lake Palestine congregation.
Representatives from the Wesley Foundation of Tyler Junior College and Lon Morris College were a part of the worship service. They were here for the celebration of Education Day at the church.
Amanda Parker of Chandler, who attends Lon Morris, gave a great talk on her reason for going to that school, and Rev. Sunny Farley showed a video on the work being done at TJC.
We are proud of all the students who participated on Sunday.
In the evening, David's Song gave a performance at the amphitheater on the lake.
Many people attended the concert made even more special by the beautiful scenery of the sun setting on the lake.
We were glad to see Thetis Jackson back at church. She seems to be feeling better.
Rich and Donna Franko are back in town. Rich said he has a whole month off from his job in Oklahoma City.
Teena Blakeney's mother is home. Her family has been coming to see her. We are all praying for her.
I was in Austin for a meeting at the beginning of last week, and then at the end of the week, my mother, Margaret Lucas, was admitted to the hospital.
Dorothy Botts is out of the hospital and still recovering at home.
Many young children were in the service on Sunday. They have been active lately and plan plenty of exciting trips in the future.
One of their biggest trips will be the Polar Express around Christmas. Anyone who needs information on the children's ministry should contact Winter Arthur or Amy Shruptine through the church office.
The current project is to put together a float for the Chandler Pow Wow parade.
The Annual Charge Conference for the church was on Sept. 19.
Several members were in attendance to hear from our new district superintendent and to get a vision for the future of the church.
On Sept. 16, the Savutos, missionaries from Kenya, gave a talk on their work at the United Methodist hospital in Kenya.
A mission meal was prepared by Sandy Walton and her helpers, and it was delicious.
We are praying for Mary Ann Whisenhunt's full recovery after her recent heart surgery.
We are also happy for Bob Fisher. He has just started a new job in the emergency room at East Texas Medical Center.
Sue Johnson is recovering after her fall. We hope to see her soon.
Choir rehearsal has begun again and Christmas music is a part of it. All those who would like to sing are welcome to come out on Wednesday nights at 7.
Mark your calendars. Oct. 10 is the Methodist Men's garage sale. It's always a great place to find some neat items.
Then, on Oct. 31, there will be a "trunk or treat" for the neighborhood children. Start thinking about how you want to decorate your cars now.
