ST. BONIFACE

Sue Beams

On the Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, members of St. Boniface heard how family members save each other through support, encouragement and direction.

Fr. Luke, in his homily, spoke of the ways in which the lives of St. Theresa of the child of Jesus and St. Theresa of Avila were affected by their fathers.

In the case of Theresa of the child of Jesus she credited the righteousness of her father's example that led her to lead a saintly life.

Theresa of Avila credits her father's intervention when she was tempted to follow her friends on the path to sin as the reason she was saintly instead of ending up as a "girl of the streets."

In the first reading, Moses prayed to God to send help to spread the Word. Seventy elders received the Spirit of God and as a sign of that Spirit they began to prophesize.

Some complained the two elders who were absent were prophesying. God has the choice of whom to give His Spirit. It is never our decision. We must tolerate he "who is not against us."

That is not always easy. However, we are to embrace everyone. It is a grave sin to cause others to fall.

Instead of destroying, we are to build up and help one another grow.

In the readings of the day, the fires of Gehenna were mentioned. Hell is the absence of God. There is a need for us to become closer to God and as we do, there is no need for us to worry about the fires of hell - the absence of God.

Following Mass, refreshments were served in the community room.

Compliments to the choir.Iit was great to hear the added voices. Thank you all very much for your efforts and dedication. God bless you.

Oct. 2 is First Friday. Mass is at 9 a.m. with Adoration following until noon.

Also on Friday and Saturday, photos will be taken of parishioners for the new church directory. It is important that you keep your appointed time.

Update: According to the committee, our stainedglass window project is moving forward in spite of a slight delay. The company making and installing the windows is behind schedule. However, St. Boniface is next in line for installation.

Congratulations and best wishes to all who are celebrating birthdays and anniversaries. May God pour out blessings to you.

We pray for the sick and suffering, especially Julie DeLaGarza, Raul's mom who is recovering from bypass surgery. May God heal and comfort you.

We remember the souls of the faithful departed, most especially Horton Bunch. May the peace of Almighty God be with you, and your family during this stressful time.

As always, we remember in prayer all those who serve our country, defending our nation and protecting us from harm.

May God the Father keep you in His tender care.
