Jr. High sweeps Westwood; 7th `B' gets first win of season

All four junior high Bears teams posted wins over the Westwood Panthers on Thursday, Oct. 8 while posting two shutouts among those games.

Also notable, the seventh grade "B" team posted its first win of the season with a 16-0 decision.

7th `B' 16, Westwood 0

It was a short Westwood punt that set up the first Bears score. When the Panthers punter kicked the ball about 15 yards downfield, backspin brought the ball back to the Westwood 15- yard line ... a net of only three yards.

The Bears took only one play to take advantage of the fortuitous spin ... Dylan Pietrowski swept left end for 18 yards for the opening score at the 2:40 mark of the first quarter.

Pietrowski converted the 2-point conversion on a running play to put Brownsboro up 8-0.

Isaac Ridgle caught a 5- yard pass from quarterback Clay McCoy with 3:04 left in the game. A successful 2-point conversion posted the final margin of 16-0 and put the game away.

8th `A' 32, Westwood 14

The eight grade "A" team opened with 18 unanswered points while holding the Westwood Panthers scoreless in the first half, then matched their opponents score for score in the second half.

Jesse Ray scored from one yard out for the Bears with 4:44 left in the first quarter, then Houston Swade caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Ty Thomison less than a minute into the second quarter. Michael Penny added a two-yard scoring run with less than two minutes to go in the half.

Westwood got its first score, returning the opening kickoff of the second half 77 yards, before scoring the final touchdown of the game on a 5-yard Ben Lucky run with 3:18 left in the game.

Ray had recorded his second tourchdown from three yards out with 3:27 left in the third and Tanner Wilson scored on an 18-yard touchdown pass from Thomison early in the fourth.

8th `B' 14, Westwood 0

Phillip Smith broke a run for 60 yards to open the scoring for the Bears eighth grade `B' team and to post and 8-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.

Midway through the second period, Rueben Rodriquez stepped in front of a Panthers pass play, intercepting the ball and returning it 48 yards for the final points of the game.

The second and third quarters were scoreless.

7th `A' 22, Westwood 6

The seventh grade "A" Bears scored the final 16 points of the game to close out a victory over Westwood.

Turner Taylor had a 29-yard scoring run while Landon Mason caught a 49-yard scoring pass from quarterback Will Bailey. Cody Renfro caught the 2-point conversion passes from Bailey after each score.

Bailey had recorded the first touchdown of the game in the second quarter on an 11-yard run at the 6:46 mark.
