KBB seeks donations for new nativity scene
Keep Brownsboro Beautiful is trying to raise money to buy materials for a nativity scene for its Christmaslighting ceremony in December, Roxie Holley said.
"The old nativity scene had been used for years and years, and we are in need of a new one. Keep Brownsboro Beautiful has found one, but we need funds to purchase it. It costs quite a bit."
Holley is the organization's vice president.
"We would like donations, " she said. "The nativity scene will be part of the Christmas tree lighting. This will be an annual event for the city."
Last year, the ceremony was on State Highway 31 near First State Bank and Food Fast. Holley estimated about 200 people attended.
"Santa Claus came and gave out candy canes on a fire truck. We had hot chocolate and took donations. "
For safety reasons, the ceremony will be moved to Brownsboro City Park on Stuart Street. Third-graders from Brownsboro Elementary School will sing Christmas carols.
Separately, the city has added a $1 optional fee on water bills. That money would be used to purchase playground equipment for City Park, Holley said.
"Names have been submitted to the Brownsboro City Council for a park board, and they will approve or not approve those at its November meeting. We need a board to run the park - not the city or KBB."
The organization is also selling raffle tickets for a $100 gift certificate to Y's Home Town Foods. Funds raised will be used on the park renovation project.
Donations to Keep Brownsboro Beautiful can be sent to P.O. Box 292, Brownsboro, TX 75756. Its next meeting is set for Tuesday, at 7 p.m., at the Brownsboro Community Center.
