LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Humane Society commends Chandler police

The Henderson County Humane Society would like to voice its appreciation for the work of the Chandler Police Department in a recent incident where an animal was badly in need of help from local officials, and that's exactly what it got.

In particular, we would like to offer many thanks to Officers Estes, Jones, and Moss, and to Judge Starnes, Justice of the Peace, for caring about the welfare of this animal, taking the time to find out the details of the case and laws concerning animals, and in the end, doing the best they could under the circumstances.

The Humane Society and others involved in this situation were pleasantly surprised at how quickly and fairly the matter was handled, all with the welfare of the animal a top priority.

We are very fortunate in a small community to have some law enforcement officials who believe that animals need and deserve their help when they are not being cared for properly!

Thank you.

KBB seeks help for nativity scene

This is an open letter to the citizens of the Brownsboro area.

Last year, when Keep Brownsboro Beautiful was organized, several things fell to that group. One of these things was to add to the Christmas decorations for the city.

The original nativity scene which had been purchased many years ago was no longer presentable. It had deteriorated greatly from use, weather and age - to the point that Joseph was headless and several other pieces also had damage.

As funds were very slim at that time, KBB decided that a tree could be constructed with minimal investment and would add a festive touch to the area.

It was hoped that a nativity scene could be added in the near future - hopefully this year.

That is where you come in. A nice nativity scene will cost approximately $1,000. This is an amount that KBB does not have available. If anyone would like to contribute to this purchase, it would increase the likelihood that a nativity scene could be placed in Brownsboro for the coming Christmas season. KBB will handle the purchase, set-up, and storage of the nativity scene.

All donations should be marked "Nativity Scene." Tax-deductible contributions for purchase of a nativity scene may be mailed to: Keep Brownsboro Beautiful, P.O. Box 292, Brownsboro, TX 75756.

Your help in providing a new nativity scene for Brownsboro will benefit the entire area.

Beautiful Coach asks supporters to form spirit line Friday

You know, I was just thinking.

Martha Copeland gave a talk in church last week about the way things used to be, and that got me thinking.

We're playing for the district championship in football this Friday against our cross county rivals, the Athens Hornets.

Back in the 80s and 90s when we had great football teams, the fans made spirit lines to get the Bears onto the field.

The team and the coaches really got pumped up when we came out from halftime to a double line of enthusiastic fans cheering us back onto the field.

With this being senior night, it would not be necessary or practical to have a spirit line before the start of the game because the kids will already be pumped up, but since our award winning Bear band and cheerleaders will already be on the field, that spirit line at the end of halftime would be a very motivating experience for our Bear players.

Martha also said that when she was in school, saying the Lord's Prayer was an everyday occurrence.

You know that God's not invited into schools much these days.

Wouldn't it be great if the Brownsboro fans and the Athens fans spontaneously said the Lord's Prayer together out loud during the moment of silence?

Our community would really be making a statement if that happened.

But you know me. I was just thinking!

Go Beans! God bless you.
