CORSICANA - A Saturday match win earned the Brownsboro Bearettes the right to represent District 20AAA as the district's first place team in the playoffs.

It also earned the Bearettes a first round bye in the playoffs.

The Bearettes went down one game early in the best 3- out-of-5 match, as the Fairfield Lady Eagles took Game 1, 25-18.

But Brownsboro didn't fold, winning the next three games to take the match.

They opened game two on a 3-0 run on Chelsea Chambers serve. But Fairfield fought back, eventually tieing the game at 5.

On Kaycee Wood's serve, the Bearettes added two consecutive points after a service change point to go back up by three.

Later, up 11-7, the Bearettes ran off three more points on Shelbi Holt's serve - as middle blocker Hillary Shaffer posted two blocks at the net - to go up 14-7.

Fairfield drew close later, at 21-19, but the Bearettes again used Holt's serve, and two Shaffer blocks, to close out the game at 25-19 after the service change.

Game Three was similar ... close early, then with the Bearettes opening up a lead and holding on.

Brownsboro went out to a 7-2 lead early, in part because of a four-point run on Caitlin Collin serve.

Fairfield closed it to 19-18 in the game, but Holt sawa a five-point run on her serve as Shaffer got a kill and a block; Collins hit a cross court spike; and Holt kept one long rally alive with a nice, backline dig.

Brownsboro took the game by another 25-19 score after Shaffer recorded another block at the net for game point.

Game Four saw the Bearettes fall behind 10-13, but come back on a fivepoint run as Collins was again serving.

During that run, Alex Conway put away a nice punch shot at the net and Shaffer's tough block at the net couldn't be returned.

Up 15-13, it was the Bearettes play when Fairfield had the serve that made the difference. While Brownsboro was occasionally able to get a point on serve after getting a point on the service change, that same situation was rare for Fairfield the rest of the way.

It proved pivotal in providing an end to the match.

The Lady Eagles were able to tie the game at 24- 24, saving a match point in the process, but Fairfield's rally fell short.

Brownsboro got a point by breaking Fairfield's serve and gain another match point at 25-24.

They put the game away with their own serve, with Collins doing the honors, for a 26-24 Game 4 win and taking the match, 3-1.

The match was set after both Brownsboro and Fairfield finished the season tied for first with identical 9- 1 district records and a share of the district title.

The Saturday matchup was necessary to detrmine the seeding of the teams going into the playoffs.
