Sales tax numbers near last year's levels

Sales tax revenues held within a handful of dollars from figures of a year ago, according to a report released Friday by the Texas Comptroller's Office.

For November, Athens was up about six-tenths of a percentage point.

Chandler's percentage change was simliarly flat - up about a quarter-point for November, compared to the same month last year.

Brownsboro was down nearly 14 percent, but in actual dollars the decline was only about $1,700.

So far in 2009, Chandler is up 1.28 percent on total revenues-to-date of $395,420.59, while Brownsboro is down 2.37 percent with a total (after November) of $116,740.68.

Murchison is at $28,263.90 - down 26.36 percent for the year.

The county's 16 entities collecting the sales tax combined for November revenues of $875,477.72 - 0.24 percent more than November 2008.

For the year, the county has combined for about $8.6 million in total sales tax revenues. At the same point last year, that total was about $8.8 million.

November's sales tax revenues reflect moneys collected September, reported in October, and returned to the collecting entities this month.

December's report is expected to be released by the comptroller's office on Dec. 11.

Unemployment numbers for October are set to be released by the Texas Workforce Commission on Nov. 20.
