Police search for Chevron burglary suspect

Paul Bryant Managing Editor

CHANDLER - Police are looking for a man they say walked into a Chevron station and grabbed money collected for the family of a woman killied in a hit-andrun in Tyler, Chief Ron Reeves said.

"This is not the season to be stealing from those in need. It’s bad enough she was killed and the money was stolen there."

Victoria Miles, 25, was standing on a median near the 1700 block of SSE Loop 323 on Dec. 3 when a southbound truck driven by Gerald Lane Bourque, 45, hit her. Miles was reportedly walking back to work at the Valero Station near Kinsey Drive after withdrawing money from Regions Bank.

Passers-by reportedly stopped their vehicles not to help Miles but to pick up some of her money left at the accident scene. Bourque was later arrested near Whitehouse and charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Miles died at East Texas Medical Center.

Reeves said the suspect captured on surveillance images shows a male suspect about six feet tall. He was wearing dark clothing and a dark cap.

"We have a strong suspicion of who he is, but that’s all we’ve got right now," Reeves said. "We cannot name a suspect."

The chief said surveillance footage shows a couple of other people entering the store around the same time as the suspect.

They or anyone else with information about the case is asked to call the Chandler Police Department at 903- 849-2181.

Kidd Jones owns the Chevron station at Jones Street and State Highway 31 in Chandler. A company representative did not answer a request for comment.
