The Westwood Lady Panthers weathered a cold second quarter and a freezing fourth quarter to hold on for a 28-22 win over the Eustace Lady Bulldogs in Tuesday play at the Brownsboro Bearettes Doubleheader.
Westwood opened with a 14-2 first quarter, scored only four in the second period, then put up a 10-7 third quarter before being blanked in the fourth quarter.
But Eustace scored only six in the second quarter and seven points in each of the final period, to go with the two-point fourth quarter.
K. Blair led Westwood with 12 points while S. Henry and D. Blair each had six points. D. Brown had four points.
For Eustace, Megan REnteria had five pointss while C. Grant and A. Phillips had four points each. Jenny McConalty added three points.
TUESDAY ACTION JUNIOR VARSITY Brownsboro notches nine-point win versus La Poynor
The Bearettes junior varsity used a 9-0 second quarter to fuel a 38-19 win over the La Poynor Lady Flyers Tuesday.
Mallorie Lough notched six of her nine points in the game during that second quarter, including a threepointer and three free throws.
Sierra Bell led the way for Brownsboro with 11 points and Cashay Carter and Megann Lough added four points each.
Van downs Westwood
The Van Lady Vandals used a strong first quarter and a strong final period, and outscored the Westwood Lady Panthers in every quarter, on their way to a 43-26 win Tuesday at the Brownsboro Bearettes Doubleheader.
Van outscored Westwood 12-6 in the first period and 14-7 in the fourth, to post the victory.
Monds (complete names not listed in scorebook) led Van with 13 points, while N. Hall led WEstwood with 10.
TUESDAY ACTION FRESHMAN Brownsboro shutsdown Eustace, 38-6
The Bearettes shut out the Eustace Lady Bulldogs in the second and fourth quarters, held Eustace to only two points in the first period, and four in the fourth quarter, in posting a 32-point win.
Shayla Mitchell led Brownsboro with 15 points while Jacobi Parker had seven.
Tori Shultz had four points. Tracy Booth, Morgan Barnes, Abbey Adair, Megan Garrett, Kaylan Harris and Taylor Cofer each had two points in the win.
Only two Lady Bulldogs scored in the game - A. Cravey with four and L. Morrison with two.
Frankston downs Van
The Frankston Maidens used an 11-1 first quarter and a 20-0 third quarter to post a 28-point victory over the Van Lady Vandals Tuesday.
Frankston opened the game with a 9-0 run, and the second half with a 26-0 run. The Maidens defense held the Lady Vandals to only two points in the second half.
M. Winkler led Frankston with 14 points while K. Fields and A. Allen each added six points. Bledsoe led the way for Van with four points.
MONDAY ACTION VARSITY Brownsboro coasts to win over Eustace
The Brownsboro Bearettes scored the first 14 points against the Eustace Lady Bulldogs in their first varsity action of the Bearettes Doubleheader Monday.
Brownsboro won the game, 42-18.
Eustace didn't get on the scoreboard until its first bucket with 58 seconds left in the first quarter. By halftime, Brownsboro was up 27-4 and Coach Fred Griffin was freely substituting players and putting a multitude of different lineups on the floor.
The second and third quarters were like the first, with Eustace scoring its only bucket near the end of each period, and Brownsboro opening up with extended runs to begin play each time.
The Bearettes ran off the first 13 points in the second quarter and the first 11 points in the third quarter, before shutting it down in the final period.
LaQuesha Cooper led Brownsboro with 13 points. Synola Harmon scored 11 points and Desiree Johnson and Hillary Shaffer added six points each.
Tiffany Hurd had five points and Lakeshia Johnson had one point.
Westwood downs La Poynor, 41-32
The Westwood Lady Panthers built a nine-point lead after three periods of play, then traded baskets with the La Poynor Lady Flyers in the fourth quarter to hold on for a win.
The Lady Panthers eased out to an 11-8 lead during a first half dominated by turnovers and defense. The third quarter was pivotal, as Westwood opened up the second half with a 10-2 run to expand that lead.
Overall, Westwood outscored La Poynor 16-10 in the third to provide the decisive margin in the game.
MONDAY ACTION JUNIOR VARSITY Brownsboro ekes out win
The Bearettes junior varsity managed to make less mistakes than Van Lady Vandals Monday, and eked out a 19-10 win to start their play in the Brownsboro Bearettes Doubleheader.
Brownsboro managed to have a 10-8 lead after three periods of play, then outscored Van 9-2 in the final period to post the final margin of victory.
Sierra Bell led the Bearettes with six points and Cashay Carter and Courtney Cook had four points each. Malloie Lough had three points and Megann Lough had two points.
Westwood has comeback over La Poynor
In Monday JV action, Westwood trailed throughout its game against La Poynor, but went ahead when it counted ... with 1:58 left in the game.
Sharontale Hunte hit a turnaround bank shot from short range in the paint to give the Lady Panthers a one-point lead at 24-23 and Heather Wooden hit two free throws with 42 seconds left to build that lead to three and seal would would become a 26-25 win over the Lady Panthers.
Wooden led the Lady Panthers with 11 points and Hunt had eight in the lowscoring contest that was 11- 9 in favor of the Lady Flyers at half-time.
MONDAY ACTION FRESHMAN Bearettes downs Van
The Brownsboro Bearettes freshman squad outscored the Van Lady Vandals by a 22-9 count in the second half as they took a 42- 26 win in their first action in Brownsboro Bearettes Doubleheader action Monday.
The Bearettes held a slight lead of 20-17 at half-time, then pulled out to a solid lead with a 12-2 third quarter as both offense and defense were in gear.
Jacobi Parker led the Bearettes with 14 points and Morgan Barnes had 12 points. Shayla Mitchell had 10 points in the win.
Toni Lee added four points while Brittany Dikes and Tori Shultz each added one point.
Frankston defeats Eustace
The Frankston Maidens built a 10-point, half-time lead, then outscored the Eustace Lady Bulldogs 15-2 in the fourth quarter, on their way to a 36-15 blowout win in the Brownsboro Bearettes Doubleheader Monday.
It was 19-9 at half-time in favor of Frankston before play slowed down in the third quarter as both teams combined for only six total points in that period.
In the fourth quarter, Eustace stayed cold while Frankston got hot to put 15 points on the board.
M. Winkler (scorebook did not have full names) led Frankston with 17 poiints while A. Allen chipped in with eight more. A. Karnes and K. Fields had four points each and T. Emmons had three points in the game.
