LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor:
Do we really need our tax base to expand from alcohol sales? Do we really need to sell alcohol on Main Street Brownsboro?
Every year, our school district participates in a week-long education on the use of drugs, smoking and alcohol.
It’s called Drug Free Week. The kids are encouraged to be drug free.
Are we now to tell the kids drugs and smoking are bad, but drinking is okay, because it will bring in tax dollars and broaden our tax base?
Will area flower shops and funeral homes also experience an economic boom from alcohol-related deaths? Will alcohol sales attract organized crime? Will our tax base be eaten up by having to hire more and more law enforcement to deal with the problems created by alcohol?
Dusty, will you have security in your parking lot, making sure some drunk doesn’t “tank up” on your property, before pulling out onto busy Highway 31?
Are you prepared for lawsuits? Do you think like-minded patrons will darken the door of your store again?
Right is right and wrong is wrong. There’s nothing ethical about this issue. We don’t need anything that that compromises values, morals and principles held by the majority of this community.
As a matter of record, my husband and I retired from the Brownsboro ISD and currently have grandchildren in the Brownsboro and Chandler schools.
Although we don’t live in the district, we are in the community and spend money there.
There are better ways to raise revenues, by attracting wholesome businesses that will be beneficial to the area. That will be a win-win for all. Be creative.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
