Alcohol sales in Brownsboro would increase crime, hurt kids
I have been heartsick since reading recently that one of our school board members is in favor of an election to make Brownsboro a place where liquor is sold.
In my wildest dreams I can’t imagine ever seeing this happen. I thought about what our young people in the junior high group I work with in church say (WWJD).
I also thought “What would Jesus want me to say?”
Having taught elementary school children for 40 years in the district and 38 of those at Brownsboro Elementary, the children in Brownsboro are very precious to me.
I would never want to see this come about, as I feel children would be hurt. I also care about those who are now parents and grandparents who I taught in first grade.
I hope everyone thinks long and hard about liquor being sold one block from the junior high school and two blocks from the elementary and high schools.
You also need to consider the crime in your city that would come with buying and drinking of liquor. I can’t imagine thinking that city sales taxes are more important than our children.

Mickie Dingler of LaRue could not have expressed my feelings regarding the sale of alcohol in Brownsboro any better. And I could not agree more with his words to the editor.
He mentioned the effect on the children of our community, the safety on Highway 31, security issues, type of people that will patronize his store in the event alcohol is sold, and the added security needed for this community.
We have been customers of Y’s Home Foods for years and was shocked when we read the article about the sale of alcohol.
Dusty, do you think all store clerks would not sell to minors even though there is a law against it? Think again.
How many minors buy cigarettes? What are the statistics on alcohol? How many families are affected by alcohol?
As a resident of Brownsboro for 33 years, I’m proud to say my family lives in a small-town environment that is known for football and basketball games, where I would think most of the people here would oppose the sale of alcohol.
My concern is how the community can stop the sale of alcohol in Brownsboro.
