Cameron Warren signed a national letter of intent on signing day (Feb. 3), inking with the West Texas State Buffaloes.

Warren was ready for the end of the process.

“I’m happy it’s all over,” he said after signing the paperwork at a gathering held in Brownsboro High School’s library. “I just thank God I made it to this day. I’m just blessed to be here.”

Cameron’s dad, Lee, echoed his son’s classification of the event as a blessing.

“We’ve been traveling up and down the road with him to this point,” Lee said of the years to this point. “It’s a blessing for me, his mom, (his family), and all his classmates.

“Igt’s truly a blessing gto see him take it to the next level.”

And, he added, Cameron’s ability to advance on came with assistance.

“I’m thankful for his teachers and coaches that helped him to get here,” Lee said.

Cameron’s mom, Daphne, admitted it will be different when her son goes away to college this summer and leaves home for the first time.

“He’s going to be missed,” Daphne said. “But I like the college and they said they’re going to take care of him.”

Brownsboro athletic director and head football coach John Settle has experience with the annual “signing day.” This was the seventh consecutive year in which he had at least one of his athletes sign to play college sports.

It’s a special day, he said. “You’re just as proud as a father,” Settle said. “Like they’re my own son.”

And seeing his running back move on is just proof of hard work paying off.

“Cameron deserves it,” Settle said. “I think he’s going to do extremely well. Once he gets to college, and gets acclimated, he’ll excel. He’s excelled at everything he’s done.”

West Texas A&M is located in the Panhandle, in the city of Canyon. The Buffaloes went 6-5 last season, and went 6-3 in conference play. The team finished in a four-way tie for first place in its division, posting a 4-2 record and finished in a tie for fourth overall in the conference with Abilene Christian University.

West Texas is a Division II school, competing in the South Division of the Lone Star Conference. The conference is made up of two divisions and a total of 13 universities.

Cameron Warren said he will be heading to the college in July.
