What Is Necessary To Know You Will Go To Heaven?

Bob Sexton

God wants you in Heaven — Satan doesn’t — and you won’t go just because you think you will.

So how can you know for sure? As always, the Bible tells us.

First, we must realize that we have a major obstacle to overcome called “sin.”

In fact, the Apostle Paul, in Romans 3:23, lets us know God’s view on the subject. He says that everyone has sinned and falls short of the glory of God.

The word for sin means “to miss the mark.” Everyone who does not personally know Jesus misses a relationship with God now, and eventually misses residing for eternity in the glory of Heaven.

Secondly, and this is where the gospel, “the good news,” comes in. The Bible in Romans 5:8 speaks of the great demonstration of God’s own love, and of His desire for us to belong to Him.

It says that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:6 helps us to know we were helpless to take care of our sin problem ourselves. But, at just the right time (God’s time) Christ died for all of us.

The Bible continues to help us in Ephesians 1:7, where it tells us we can have redemption in Him (Jesus), through His blood shed on the cross for our sins, and that includes forgiveness of our trespasses (sins) according to God’s rich grace.

The good news is that our biggest obstacle to going to Heaven — sin — is overcome by trusting in the good news that Jesus died to enable us to be forgiven, to belong to God, and to have Heaven as our eternal home, and know it!
