BHS seniors sign letters
Loyd Cook Photo It was another day of signing college letters of intent at Brownsboro High School Tuesday morning. Brad McDonald (baseball, seated, third from left) signed with Hill College and Zack Bailey (football, seated, third from right) signed with Mary Hardin-Baylor. If you wanted to call it a doubleheader, it would probably be more akin to a day-night twin bill rather than a traditional one.
Brad McDonald and Zack Bailey each signed a letter of intent to play college sports, each Brownsboro High School senior with a different college -- McDonald with Hill College and Bailey with Mary Hardin- Baylor.
And, the other difference, McDonald will be moving on to play college baseball for the Rebels, while Bailey will hit the gridiron to play football for the Crusaders.
“It’s what I worked for all my life,” Brad McDonald said. “It’s been my dream to play college ball.”
“It’s awesome,” Zack Bailey chimed in. “A lot of hard work has paid off. I thank my coaches for a chance to play and working with me, and my parents for supporting me.
Hill College competes in the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference, which is made up of Temple College, Ranger College, McLennan Community College, Weatherford College, Grayson College, Vernon College, and North Central Texas College
Mary Hardin-Baylor, a Division III school, competes in the American Southwest Conference, which is made up of Mississippi College, Lousiana College, Hardin-Simmons University, McMurray University, East Texas Baptist, Howard Payne University, Sul Ross State, and Texas Lutheran University.
Brad’s mom, Rhonda, was upbeat about her son’s accomplishment.
“I’m very proud of him,” she said. “I hope he follows his dreams.”
Zack’s mom, Cindy, praised her son.
“He keeps us laughing. He works hard, plays hard and he’s got a great sense of humor,” she said. “We’ll support him and follow him.”
Zack will be joining a Crusaders team that is coming off an ASC co-conference championship year. UMHB and Mississippi College each had 7-1 conference records last year, with the Crusaders, at 10-2, posting the better overall record.
Brad is headed to a Rebels squad in rebuilding mode. Hill College went 9-23 in conference and 14-37 overall in the 2009 season.
