GETTING THE SEASON UNDERWAY

The Brownsboro Bearettes softball team is off to a 7-3 start for the season, after going 4-2 in their own tournament last week.
The tournament was won by the Van Lady Vandals, closed out with a 4-3 win over Groesbeck in the title game.
The Bearettes went 3-0 in pool play held Thursday, Feb. 25, before going 1-2 in bracket play on Saturday, Feb. 27.
Pool Play
Game 1
Brownsboro 4, Mineola 1
Paige Goggans pitched five innings, giving up one run while striking out four Mineola batters and walking only one to earn the win in Brownsboro’s opening game of the tournament.
A three-run third inning provided the margin of victory for the Bearettes.
Lacey Pettit went 1-for-3, Chelsea Holcomb was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored, and Taylor Barnes was 2-for-2 with two doubles with one run scored.
Lindsay Wood was 1-for-2 with a run scored and Morgan Barnes was 1-for-2. Goggans was 1-for-1 at the plate with a walk.

Game 2
Brownsboro 16, Marlin 0
Taylor McIntyre pitched a five-inning perfect game, striking out six in the process as Brownsboro destroyed Marlin, 16-0, in Thursday pool play.
The Bearettes offense had big innings in the first (four runs), third (seven runs) and fifth (three runs) innings en route to the victory.
Lacey Pettit was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Carley Smith, batting for McIntyre, was 2-for-3 with a walk and also scored three runs.
Chelsea Holcomb was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored while third baseman Taylor Barnes was 1-2 with three runs scored.
Morgan Barnes was 2-for-4 with two triples and a run scored. Jamie Murphy went 1-for-2 with three runs scored, Allison Palmer went 1-for-2 with a run scored, and Malea Sims was 2-for-3.

Game 3
Brownsboro 16, Kemp 0
Paige Goggans gave up a single hit while striking out five and walking none in a double digit Bearettes win over the Kemp Lady Yellowjackets.
Brownsboro opened the game with a nine-run first inning in a game called after three innings due to the run differential.
Lacey Pettit was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, Taylor Barnes also scored two runs and was 2-for-3 at the plate.
Allison Palmer was 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored and Morgan Barnes was 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Carley Smith was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Logan Gaughan was 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Chelsea Holcomb, Lindsey Wood and Malea Sims each scored a run in the game.

Game 1
Mildred 6, Brownsboro 2
The Bearettes scored two runs in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a six-run deficit.
Paige Goggans was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Lindsey Wood was 1-for-1 and scored the only other Bearettes run in the game.
Lacey Pettit went 2-for-4 and Maranda Goode was 1-for-2.

Game 2
Brownsboro 1, Chapel Hill 0
It was an unusual way to win a game. Lindsey Wood struck out, but went to first base on a dropped third strike. Pinch runner Jamie Murphy stole second and later advanced to third on a passed ball.
Murphy scored when Morgan Barnes got an infield single on a popup that should have been caught by the Chapel Hill defense.
The lone run proved to be enough as Paige Goggans pitched seven shutout innings, giving up three hits while striking out four batters and walking four.

Tyler Lee 10, Brownsboro 0
The Bearettes were down quickly after Tyler Lee scored eight runs in the first inning in what turned out to be a 10-0 Brownsboro loss.
Lacey Pettit, Maranda Goode, Taylor Barnes and Jamie Murphy each had one hit in the game.
