Bearettes land 7 on both athletic, academic squads

Loyd Cook Photo The Brownsboro Bearettes were rewarded for its co-district championship in basketball, and a season of more, placing seven different players on District 20- 3A’s all district teams, with two of the seven earning superlative honors.

And the squad also posted seven players to the Academic All-District team, as well.

Junior post Hillary Shaffer was named co-MVP of the district, her second sport in which she earned superlative honors during this school year. She was the MVP for the district in volleyball.

Bearettes point guard LaQuesha Cooper was named Sophomore of the Year, running the offense and leading the Bearettes into the playoff.

Senior wing Synola Harmon was named to the All-District’s first team as a unanimous selection by all coaches in the district.

Griffin Griffin Desiree “Dez” Johnson, also a senior playing wing (and probably the Bearettes’ best defensive player), was named to the second team All-District squad.

Junior

wing Chelsea Chambers, junior post Tiffany Hurd and sophomore post/ wing Yniqua Mosley earned Honorable Mention on the District 20-3A team.

To qualify the Academic All- District team, Bearettes head coach Fred Griffin said the athletes must have a 90-or-higher average during the six week grading period in the basketball season.

The Bearettes that made the academic honors team were: Hillary Shaffer, LaQuesha Cooper, Chelsea Chambers, Synola Harmon, Desiree Johnson, Chelsea Holcomb and Carley Smith.

Griffin released the All-District and Academic All-District results Monday.
