Christians expected to be sound financially
The Bible has much to say about money management.
Many Christians believe that just about anything to do with money is evil, that we are to work six days of each week and still remain poor.
But the Bible tells us it is God’s will for us to prosper, and offers guidance, promises and assistance to help us set and reach our financial goals.
About Work
“Jesus said to them (in John 5:17), ‘My Father is always at His work to this very day, and I, too, am working.’”
Since the days of Adam and Eve, we have had to earn our living by the “sweat of our brow,” according to Genesis 3:19.
The Apostle Paul says in Colossians 3:23, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
We also need rest and recreation, according to Deuteronomy 5:13-14: “Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work.”
Employment
We owe our employer loyalty and faithfulness. Not showing up for work, and not giving an honest day’s work is the same as stealing. This allows foreign labor with lower wages to under-sell the company you work for; possibly placing your job in jeopardy.
Financial Investing
Jesus taught about money management as did Paul. To prosper, we must not only work but also develop good money management.
God wants you to invest so that you will become prosperous, have all your needs met, and make it possible for you to help those in need.
Growing our Christian finances requires prayer, work and discipline, which in turn ushers in prosperity and preparation for the rainy days.
Household Budget
Becoming a financially prosperous and debt-free Christian requires action and work. It also requires good money management, planning, self discipline, and a budget.
People in general don’t particularly like budgets, but saving money for future investments requires being on a budget (Matt 25:14- 30). Investments aside, it’s a sad thing for a man or woman to work every day and not know where their money goes.
Job Promotion
You must be responsible, be on the job at the right time, and have a good attitude. To prosper in your work you must learn all you can about your job, then learn all you can about the other jobs in your company, take an interest, give more than is required. This attitude is so lacking in today’s workplace that it is almost guaranteed to bring job promotions.
Financial Guidance
If you are obedient and seek the Lord, He will give you the necessary ability and guidance that will help you prosper in everything. He will guide and empower you to find the best financial advice, the perfect job, and be among the highest paid in your vocation.
Financial Blessings
But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confi rms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today, according to Deuteronomy 8:18.
“All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God.”
