Thousands of candystuffed plastic eggs and other treats will litter Winchester Park in Chandler Saturday as the city and Sonic host a community Easter egg hunt.
“I have over 4,000 eggs stuffed with candy all over my living room,” Donna Tyndell of Sonic said. “We’ll also have Wacky Pack toys and snacks for the kids. All they have to do is bring their Easter baskets and have a good time.”
Tyndell said children will be divided into groups at the park’s baseball fields: 3-year-olds, 4-5-year-olds, and 6-8-year-olds. Children over 8 will be placed in another group.
“Hopefully, we’ll have an Easter bunny there. I don’t have anybody to do that yet.”
More than 100 kids participated in last year’s inaugural event, officials said. They’re hoping for more this time.
“We expect at least that many,” Tyndell said. “But we’d like to have a lot more than that. This is for Brownsboro, too. We’re all one community, as far as I’m concerned. I’ve been here 11 years, and people in this community are making us what we are. I appreciate them.”
No prize eggs will be awarded, and officials said participants should arrive on time. Last year’s event lasted about 90 minutes.
The hunt is set to begin at 10:30.
