Bearettes split in first two district games

Loyd Cook Photo Taylor McIntyre and Paige Goggans combined to throw six shutout innings and the Brownsboro Bearettes took a 10-0 victory over the Crockett Lady Bulldogs in a game held in Brownsboro Tuesday, March 16.

It was the first game of the 2010 District 20-3A season for both teams.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when the Bearettes pushed across four runs to break it open.

Allison Palmer and Lacey Pettit hit singles, followed by a 2-RBI double by Carley Smith. Later in the inning, Chelsea Holcomb lofted an RBI-sacrifice fly to score Smith.

Taylor Barnes and Lindsey Wood hit singles and Morgan Barnes drove in Taylor on a fielder’s choice play for the fourth run.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Taylor Barnes sinlged (Logan Gaughan went in to run). Gaughan stole second and Wood drove her home with a double.

Morgan Barnes added a RBI single. Holly Hargrave, running for Morgan, stole second base, then scored on Ashleigh Alford’s single to put Brownsboro up, 7-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Bearettes added three more runs to invoke the 10-run rule and close out the game.

Palmer hit a one out single. Pettit reaced on a pitcher’s throwing error, with Palmer moving to third on the play. After Pettit stole second, Smith added her second 2-RBI double of the game.

Smith stole third and later came home with the game-clinching run on Holcomb’s RBI groundout.

Carley Smtih was 2 for 4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and four RBI. Chelsea Holcomb was 1 for 3 with a sacrifice fly, a double, and two RBI.

Taylor Barnes was 3 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI. Lindsey Wood was 2 for 3 with a run scored, a double, and a RBI. Morgan Barnes and Ashliegh Alford were each 1 for 3 with a RBI apiece.

Allison Palmer was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and a walk. Lacey Pettit was 1 for 4 with two runs scored.

Brownsboro’s two courtesy runners each were productive in the game. Logan Gaughan and Holly Hargrave each had a run scored and a stolen base apiece.

The junior varsity Bearettes scored two in the third inning, but that would be all they got as they fell to Crockett’s JV squad, 9-2, in the early game.

Athens 10, Brownsboro 4

The Bearettes couldn’t overcome a Hornets six-run, third inning outburst that put Brownsboro in an early, 9-0 hole Friday in Athens.

Tyler McIntyre went 2 2/3 innings, giving up eight runs (three earned), with four strikeouts and six walks while giving up three hits. Paige Goggans went the other 4 1/3 innings, giving up two runs (one earned), with five strikeouts while giving up one hit.

Brownsboro committed seven errors in the field that led to six Athens runs.

Chelsea Holcomb and Jaime Murphy each walked twice and each scored a run. Taylor Barnes walked once and scored a run.

Allison Palmer was 1 for 4 with a run scored. Lindsey Wood was 1 for 3 with a walk and a double. Carley Smith and Morgan Barnes both went 2 for 4.
