Jobless rate still high

Unemployment in Henderson County remained high, but improved in February, according to a report by the Texas Workforce Commission.

TWC figures place the county’s jobless rate at 9 percent. That’s still high, but is lower than January’s 9.4-percent rate of unemployment the agency reported earlier this month.

The state agency issued two reports this month, catching up on its monthly reporting after closing out 2009’s numbers during the first part of this year.

The latest report showed 3,215 unemployed work- ers in the county. That’s up from the 2,723 reported for February last year when the jobless rate stood at 7.9 percent, but down from the 3,371 unemployed listed for January 2010.

February 2008’s rate was 4.9 percent.

March jobless numbers are expected to be released April 16.
