Perry appoints Moffeit to state committee
Moffeit
CHANDLER —
City administrator Jim Moffeit has been appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to serve on the East Texas Regional Review Committee.
As part of the East Texas Council of Governments, the committee administers community development block grants through a points system based on poverty and unemployment rates, per-capita income, and funding in previous application cycles.
Moffeit replaces Don Copeland of Chandler on the committee. Its members serve terms “at the pleasure of the governor.”
“They’re usually two-year terms, and then members are either reappointed or replaced,” Moffeit said. “I’m glad I was chosen for this comm ittee. Maybe my service will help us secure more grants for Chandler.”
Moffeit, 66, has been Chandler’s city administrator since 2005. Born between Brownsboro and Chandler, he graduated from Brownsboro High School and served in the U.S. Navy, on aircraft carriers near Vietnam. He attended Henderson County Junior College and East Texas State University at Commerce.
The chairman of the Chandler Area Economic Development Corporation, Moffeit worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. and Dunlop Tire and Rubber Co., and owned with his brother, Dan Moffeit, Wheeler Tire Company for almost 20 years. He also worked for Chateau Communities, a real-estate trust company in Denver, for 10 years before retirement.
