EDOM — A sure sign that Spring has sprung is the return of “April in Edom — An Old Fashioned Street Fair” amidst the backdrop of the Edom arts community, with its unique shops, galleries and restaurants.

This family-oriented, admission free event brings an additional 75 booths with crafters selling everything from jewelry, photography, wooden bowls, metal art, birdhouses, lawn decor, and jams and jellies.

Food is always part of a street festival, and the variety this year ranges from fried Twinkies to steak and everything in between. Kids can enjoy a special area just for them with a bounce house, maze, slide, train ride, and face painting.

Musical entertainment is provided all weekend with many different genres represented.

Part of the festivities is a pet parade and contest in which animals and their owners are winners. Edom veterinarian Dr. Dwayne Collins will lead the parade while the song “Who Let The Dogs Out” plays over his shoulder.

On April 17, around 6 p.m., Edom’s monthly “Cruise Night” begins as up to 50 classic and rare cars will line the streets along with a disc jockey playing tunes.

Combined with the coming of Spring and Edom’s history and reputation for art, this festival has grown and typically attracts up to 9,000 people.

Many of the vendors who participate in April in Edom also display their work at the Edom Festival of the Arts in the Fall.

The April event is sponsored by the Edom Area Chamber of Commerce. Its Web site is www.visitedom. com.
