BEN WHEELER — Moore’s Store has introduced “intimate acoustic sessions” with local favorites headlining the new livemusic jams every Thursday night.

Wesley Pruitt of The Wesley Pruitt Band and singer Nicole Irby were the first to take the unplugged stage. A cover charge applies for these shows, set for 7 to 9 p.m.

The live-music venue replaces Moore’s Store’s previous open “mic” nights, which have moved to the Pickin’ Porch Park at the Festival Grounds during the Spring and Summer. Those events are scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. and do not charge admission.

Brothers J.P. and Matt Fisher of Whiskey Fish, an Americana-country jam band from Canton, are scheduled to perform tonight.

Matt Fisher sings and is lead guitarist for the band. J.P. Fisher sings and plays the acoustic rhythm guitar.

“One of the main goals from the onset of reinvigorating this community has been to establish multiple outlets for live music,” Brooks Gremmels said.

“We accomplish that endeavor with a variety of live music during the town’s many events throughout the year, providing weekend performances at Moore’s and offering our town’s people a place to show off their own musical talent with open “mic” night and Pickin’ on the Porch at the Festival Grounds.

“Eventually, we’ll even have music at The Forge when those doors open this summer.”

The Forge is an old blacksmith’s shop downtown that will serve Texas wines and cheeses.
