Sales-tax revenue lower than year ago
Sales tax revenues for the year-to-date were mostly lower than at the same point a year ago, according to a report released by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Office.
Of the 16 Henderson County cities collecting the sales tax, 10 have collected less than they did at the same point last year.
Only Brownsboro, Eustace, Log Cabin, Payne Springs, Seven Points and Tool showed increases so far in 2010, according to the latest report.
Of those, Brownsboro posted the largest percentage increase — up 12.95 percent for the year. After April’s revenue was returned from the state, Brownsboro’s collections are up almost $5,000 compared to last year.
April’s check ($9,449.20) was 6.51 percent more than the April 2009 sales tax revenue check.
April’s returns represent sales collected in February and reported in March.
Chandler’s April check was for $26,641.41, a 16.64-percent decline from the nearly $32,000 it received in April 2009. For the year, Chandler’s total of more than $121,000 is 11.91 percent below last year’s pace.
Athens is running close to its 2009 numbers, collecting $1.369 million, down 1.06 percent from the $1.384 million it had collected at the same point in 2009. Its April check of more than $291,000 represented a 5.73-percent decrease from April 2009.
