CHANDLER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Our character word for February and March was trustworthiness.

Our character word for April is fairness. Students will be recognized for perfect attendance and no tardies throughout the year.

Be sure to be at school on time every day. Make sure you are in your class at 8. We are collecting Box Tops and Capri Sun pouches.

Student birthdays are acknowledged in the office. Come by and pick up your birthday ribbon on your special day.

The following staff members celebrated birthdays in February, March and April: Mrs. Baley, Mrs. Weisinger, Ms. Parker, Mrs. Hauser, Mrs. Holt, Ms. Barnes, Mrs. Birdwell, Mrs. Reid, Mrs. Mitchell and Mrs. Moore.

The students participated in Jump Rope for Heart on March 19. All the students had a great time. Thank you, Coach Roberson, for organizing that event.

On April 1, we celebrated Easter with an egg hunt. Many of the classes walked to a classmate’s home and hunted eggs.

PTO raffled a boy’s Easter basket and a girl’s basket, each worth about $150. The winners were Rihnae D. and Collin G. Congratulations to those two students.

Pre-K over the past three months has participated in many activities related to holidays. We have studied about farms and farm animals.

We made paper plate pigs and learned to draw pigs using shapes like ovals, triangles and circles.

We talked about who takes care of these animals, and read many books, too. Now we are learning about Texas, our wonderful state.

Kindergarten has been busy learning about all different types of animals and pets. We had a pet day during which students introduced their pets.

We are looking forward to going to the zoo to see the animals in their habitats. We have studied Texas and learned the symbols of Texas and all about cowboys, and celebrated by having a Texas Day.

This was a fun time for the students and a great opportunity to learn about Texas.

First grade has celebrated the holidays with a variety of activities. In February, we presented our program related to animals on the farm. We have been learning about the life cycles of plants and animals.

We also studied Texas and participated in Texas Day. Students enjoyed the different activities that helped them learn about our state.

Second grade has learned about the seven continents of the world and reading books from some of the countries on each continent. The kids are excited about the upcoming field trip to Wits End. They are also looking forward to the lock-in.

Third graders have been preparing for TAKS testing on math and reading April 27-28. The students have shown so much improvement and we feel they are ready and prepared for TAKS.

Upcoming events are posted on the district Web site under calendars.

If you are interested in helping with our Spring Festival, contact the school. We are always looking for donations and volunteers.

We will have a silent auction and encourage community businesses and organizations to set up booths with information for our parents.

If you would like to participate, contact Natalie Smith. Don’t forget to buy your tickets early and mark your calendar for May 13. Look for more information to come on all of these events.

Kindergarten registration is scheduled for May 12-13. You will need your child’s birth certificate, social security card, shot records, proof of residence, and driver’s license of the person enrolling your child.

We look forward to meeting our new kindergarten students for the 2010-2011 school year.
