Brownsboro ended the season with a 16-11 record.

“Overall, it was a very good season,” said Bearettes head coach James Croley. “I look forward to the future, as we lose only two starters.”

“My sophomore pictures both gained valuable experience and will only get better,” Croley added. “I look forward to the leadership eight seniors (next year) will provide and I want to thank my three seniors (this year) for their work habits and for helping bring this young team together.”

With Bearettes second baseman at the plate, one out, and a 1-0 count, umpires suspended play with lightening flashing and thunder booming as light showers moved into the area. In all, the delay lasted about an hour and 40 minutes before play was resumed, albeit still in a spattering of rain.

The Lady Goats built a lead early and never relinquished it.

In the top of the second, two singles wrapped around a stoplen base and wild pitch, put Groesbeck up 1-0.

In the third, a hit batsman and a dropped fly ball put two runners on base at second and third before a wild pitch all the way to a distant backstop allowed both to score for a 3-0 Groesbeck lead.

The Lady Goats added another run in the fourth. Three wild pitches following a walk allowed that runner to score for a four-run Groesbeck lead.

That lead grew to 6-0 in the top of the fifth thanks to three wild pitches and another Brownsboro error.

It was the bottom of the fifth inning when Brownsboro finally got on the scoreboard.

Marranda Goode led off with a single and moved up to second on a groundout. Lacey Pettit got the RBI with a single to left as the Bearettes broke the scoring drought.

In the bottom of the sixth, it looked as if Brownsboro was getting back into the game.

Taylor Barnes led off with a double and Lindsey Wood drew a walk. A double steal put runners on second and third before Groesbeck returned the favor with two wild pitches of their own.

Brownsboro was within three runs of Groesbeck.

But it was too little, too late after the Lady Goats put four more runs on the board in the seventh inning, thanks to two Bearettes errors and two more wild pitches.

For Brownsboro, Pettit was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Allison Palmer was 1 for 4. Carley Smith was 1 for 4 with a double.
