Joel Walker Jr.

Funeral services for Joel “Travis” Walker Jr., 73, of Tyler, were May 4, 2010, at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Jones officiating.

Burial followed at Red Hill Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Walker died on May 1, 2010.

He was born on Dec. 17, 1936, in Brownsboro. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Brownsboro and retired in 2001 after 42 years of service from United Carrier.

Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his parents, Joel T. Walker Sr. and Modell Walker Herrington; and brother, Bobby Walker.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Walker of Tyler; sons, Donny Phillips and wife, Polly, of Tyler; Gary Phillips and wife, Marla, of Tyler; and Ricky Phillips of McKinney; daughters, Karen Galyeon and husband, Bill, of Brownsboro, Susan Miller and husband, Yancy, of Murchison, Denise Moreland and husband, Dave, of Tyler, Cheryl Allen of Tyler, and Shelly Jackson of Tyler; sisters, Vaudeen Alvey of Tyler, Brenda Tullos and husband, Ronny, of Brownsboro, Marie Splawn, of Athens, and Bobby Jean, of Athens; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jason Woodward, Sloane Tetrick, Jackson Tetrick, Brett Miller, Jesse Loven, James Byrd Jr., Steven Byrd, and David Byrd.

Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Tate, Thomas Jackson Sr., and Thomas Jackson Jr.

Visitation was May 3, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice.
