A Prayer For The Churches of America
Holy Father,
We acknowledge that You are God. You are God over all others who claim to be god. You are all-knowing and all-powerful.
Your eyes see everything that is going on in our world and our community. You see into every church, home and individual heart. We acknowledge that you are the judge of all the earth, as a nation and as individuals we are accountable to You!
Father, you have left Your church in this world to be Your hands to touch this world, Your feet to take the good news of Jesus to every nation and every one of our neighbors. You have left us here to be Your voice of warning to the wayward, hope to the hopeless and life to those who are dead in their sin.
Father, your Word tells us that if we, Your people, “will humble ourselves and pray and seek Your face and turn from our wicked ways that You will hear from Heaven, forgive our sins and heal our land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Holy Father, judge of all the earth, head of the Church, we humble ourselves before you today!
We repent of our sin. We have left You, our first love, (Revelation 2:4) we have allowed other loves to push you out of first place. We have allowed our love of pleasure, easy, power, entertainment and stuff, to become idols in our hearts and homes.
We repent of our idol worship that keeps us from loving You with all of our hearts, soul and mind (Matthew 22:37).
We repent of our sin of compromise. We have compromised the truth of your Word and Your standards of holiness and righteousness (Revelation 2:14-16).
We have become salt that has lost its flavor; we have allowed the Light of the World to be hidden by the sin in our lives. Forgive us of our compromise of truth and moral purity.
We repent of our sin of tolerance (Revelation 2:20- 23). We have allowed “political correctness” to the point that we have forsaken biblical truth.
We are seeing the fruit of our tolerance: alternative lifestyles are becoming more and more acceptable; Homes are being destroyed by addictions, abuse, pornography and sexual morality.
Our children are being aborted and those that are not are being scarred and wounded by our sin.
We humbly confess our sin of tolerance. We confess that we have allowed our culture, Hollywood and politicians to define morality. We have rationalized and defended our sin, even in the church, instead of confessing and forsaking it.
We confess our sin of tolerance that has become silence.
We repent of the sin of busyness that gives us an appearance of being alive, while we are spiritually powerless (Revelation 3:1). We repent of substituting technology, entertainment, education and personalities for Your Holy presence and power. We confess that we have allowed tradition to replace Your truth!
We repent of being lukewarm in our love for You and Your word (Revelation 3:16). We repent of being lukewarm in our love for those caught up in their sin and headed for and eternity without You.
We confess, Holy Father, that we need you! We need Your touch to change our stubborn hearts! We need Your touch to revive Your church! We need You!
Oh, God, I pray that You would touch the heart, mind and lips of every pastor, staff member and Biblestudy teacher in this area.
God, burn Your word into our hearts and give us boldness and love to preach and teach Your uncompromised word to Your people. Give us courage to proclaim the truth that alone can set people free!
Fill us with Your Spirit of power, to overcome our fear. Fill us with Your love so that we can love the unlovely.
Give us hearts and minds that are fixed upon You so that we can be holy example to Your people and call Your people and our nation back to You!
Revive Your church, oh God! In Jesus name, Amen!
