Brownsboro swears in Cox to City Council

Cox Cox A math teacher and community volunteer has been sworn in to replace Mary Carnahan on the Brownsboro City Council after she decided not to serve another term.

“I’ve been going to the council meetings for a year and a half,” Charles Cox said. “I asked if anybody was going to run, and they said no. So I decided to do it.”

Cox, 42, works at Brownsb oro Inter- mediate School, is president of Keep Brownsb oro Beauti- ful, and is director of instruction of the T-ball division of East Texas Girls Softball Board. He is married to Laura Holley and has a son, Chris Cox, 18.

The other council mem- bers are Doug Shaffer, Glen Vest, Randal Clayton and Len Vest.

Cox was sworn in during a regular council meeting on May 20. In other business, officials:

•Announced that Keep Brownsboro Beautiful received $12,000 from the Brownsboro Economic Development Corporation to help purchase playground equipment for City Park.

•Discussed the extension of speed zones throughout the city limits following what Mayor Ronny Harris called “very traumatic” accidents.

•Received a report from Brownsboro Police Chief Thomas Robertson that “the department is doing what it can to return property to its owners” after clearing burglary cases.

*Discussed the council’s intent to change the title of city secretary to “city administrator/ secretary.”

The City Council is scheduled to meet every second Thursday, at 5 p.m.
