Sales-tax revenue increases sharply
Sales-tax revenues were up sharply over much of Henderson County this month, according to a report released by the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
The 16 entities that collect sales tax combined for more than $1 million returned in May checks to this area from the state.
That $1.049 million was up from more than $884,000 received in May 2009, an increase of 18.59 percent.
Athens, the No. 1 sales tax collector in the county, was up by nearly 25 percent with receipts that topped a half-million dollars.
Chandler was up 13 percent with more than $52,000 returned to city hall this month. That was an increase from the slightly more than $46,000 received in the same month last year.
Brownsboro had a solid increase of 7.79 percent. It received $12,473.39 for May, up about $900 from last year.
Brownsboro’s year-todate figure is 11.76 percent ahead of last year’s pace, as well.
It has collected almost $56,000 in 2010.
Chandler’s 2010 total is about 5.6 percent behind last year’s pace.
Nine of the 16 collecting entities posted at least double-digit percentage increases when comparing May of this year to last year’s May, according to the report.
