Annual athletic summer camps on the horizon

Football, volleyball begins Monday

File Photo The annual Brownsboro High School sports camps are looming on the horizon for Summer 2010, according to Athletic Director John Settle.

The brochures for each camp are available on the school district’s Web site at www.brownsboro.k12. tx.us.

With the football and volleyball camps beginning on Monday, Settle said that any youngster that hasn’t pre-registered, “they can show up and we’ll get that handled.”

At the camps, all players are covered by accident insurance and an athletic trainer will be available if needed.

Football Camp

The annual football camp will run from Monday through Thursday, June 7 through June 10. It will be three and a half hours per day, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

According to the brochure, “this is a non-contact camp. No pads will be worn. Wear tennis shoes or football shoes, socks and Tshirt.”

Along with the camp instruction, the child receives a backpack, camp T-shirt, football, certificate of participation, competition winners, and awards for individual winners of competitions.

Along with skills instruction, there will also be instruction on proper conditioning and nutrition, and goal setting.

There will be lessons in sportsmanship, leadership, and citizenship.

Volleyball Camp

Brownsboro head volleyball coach Becky Daughtry has set her annual Bearette Volleyball Camp dates.

The camp is for incoming fourth graders, nine years or older, all the way through, and including, incoming high school freshmen.

Sessions will be held from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday on June 7-10 at Brownsboro High School.

The concession stand will be open for camp participants at break time.

Contest awards for various events will be given at the conclusion of the camp. All tournaments will be age-level competitions.

Each child will receive a camp T-shirt and backpack.

Along with Daughtry, camp coaches will include: Lauren Williams, Russell Smith and Erica Redfern..

The camp sponsor is Palady Air.

Softball Camp

The annual Brownsboro Bearette Softball Camp has a place on the calendar.

Campers will get softball instruction beginning Monday, June 14, through Thursday, June 17. Each day’s session will run from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the Brownsboro High School softball field.

Each child will receive a camp T-shirt, a softball and a backpack.

The camp is for youngers age 6 through 14 years old or going into first grade. Camper must be 6-yearsold by Sept. 1.

Due to UIL rules, no student entering the 10th grade in August 2010 can attend.

The concession stand will be open during all breaks during each day’s session.

Awards for various competitions during the camp will be awarded.

BHS head softball coach James Croley will be the camp director/coach.

Camp coaches will include: assistant softball coach Jennifer Hayes and various Bearettes high school players.

Registration forms can be obtained in the office of any BISD school campus, according to Croley.

The camp sponsor for 2009 is Southside Bank.

Boys Basketball Camp

Coach Fred Griffin will be the camp director for the Bears Basketball Camp.

The camp is set for sessions from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., starting on Monday, June 14 and ending with the last session on Thursday, June 17.

The concession stand will be open at break time and at the end of each day. All tournaments will be grade- level competitions.

The camp is for youngsters 7- to 14-years-old or going into the second grade. Due to UIL rules, no student entering the 10th grade in August 2010 can attend the camp.

Camp sponsors are: 1st State Bank of Brownsboro, Tommy Williams Drywall of Tyler, and Azalea Orthopedic.

Baseball Camp

The age range is wide for this camp. Participants must be from age 6 to those that are incoming high school freshman.

The camp director will be Bears head coach Ty Thomison. Phillip Smith and Paul Drake will be camp coaches.

The concession stand will be open at break time.

Sessions will run from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each day of the camp – June 21 through June 24.

Each child will receive a camp T-shirt and backpack.

The Camp sponsor is Palady Air.

Girls Basketball Camp

Coach Fred Griffin will be the camp director for the annual Bearettes Basketball Camp.

The camp is set for Monday, June 21 through Friday, June 25. Sessions will be held each day from 8 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Camp coaches will include: Becky Daughtry, James Hatchell, Russell Smith, Felicia Mosley, and Lauren Williams.

As at the other camps, all players are covered by accident insurance and an athletic trainer will be available if needed.

Each child will receive a camp T-shirt and a regulation women’s basketball.

Contest awards for various events will be awarded at the conclusion of the camp and all tournaments will be age-level competitions.
