At least five Brownsboro area farmers will help open the first phase of Main Street Market here on Friday as owners Lynn and Sheri Augustson advocate more self-dependence.
“Our main objective is to support local growers,” Sheri said. “We don’t want the government to dictate what we eat. We’re trying to get everyone healthy here.”
The Augustsons will operate an open-air farmers market five days a week at the former The Flower Patch building on State Highway 31. Growers may rent space on the east and west sides of the building and remain there each day until their products are sold out.
“We want to go back to a simpler life,” Lynn said. “This is exciting new ground for us.”

The Main Street Market owners believe organic produce and “creationfriendly” remedies should replace most grocery items and prescription medicine in people’s homes.
“We want to be all-natural and educate people on it,” Sheri said. “Our food is our medicine. We get our health from our food — not from synthetically made pharmaceuticals. At most grocers, you don’t know what chemicals were used on it, and the nutrient level is close to nothing by the time it gets to you.”
By September, the Augustsons expect to open the other part of their market, which will sell natural health and other products.
“Inside, we’ll have natural, chemical-free cleaning products, skin-care products, organic laundry detergents, and other products across the board,” Sheri said. “People need to get back to basics, and we want to promote that.”
When that part of the store opens, children will have their own space to watch family-friendly television while their parents shop. And eventually, the Augustsons want to host “music night” each Friday evening behind the market.
“This is going to be our business until we croak,” Sheri said. “We’re going to grow with this.”
Awnings will eventually cover the farmers’ 10-foot rented spaces on both sides of the building.
Main Street Market is at 14411 State Highway 31 East.
