Beall to receive Bronze Star in Edom

A Van Zandt County resident and World War II veteran is scheduled to receive the Bronze Star medal during Edom’s Independence Day celebration.

John Bryant Beall was awarded the medal “for services during World War II as a combat infantryman,” Carl Little said. “He came into my office a year ago, and I put him up for it and he got it. I looked into his record and saw that he met certain criteria.”

The U.S. Army awards the Bronze Star to infantryman who served between Dec. 6, 1941, and Sept. 2, 1945, and who “distinguished himself or herself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, not involving participation in aerial flight, in connection with military operations against an armed enemy.”

Little said Beall received a citation for ground combat in at least three battles in Europe. Additional information on Beall’s service was not available by press time.

The July 4 event is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the town’s park.

A fireworks show is planned, and a snack bar will be available.

The ceremony to honor Beall is set to begin at 8.
