Henderson County sales-tax returns evenly split

June sales-tax returns across Henderson County were evenly split, according to a report by the Texas Workforce Commission.

Of the 16 entities collecting the sales tax, eight showed an increase and eight a decrease when compared to June of last year.

Close to home, Chandler (-5.27 percent) and Brownsboro (-11.46 percent) were down in June.

Chandler’s June check of more than $28,000 was down from the slightly more than $30,00 it received in June 2009. Brownsboro, at slightly less than $9,000 for June 2010, was down from $10,150.85 the previous June.

Brownsboro, however, remains ahead of the pace for year-to-date numbers. It has received almost $65,000 so far in 2010. That’s 7.85 percent better than the $60,248.03 earned at the halfway point of 2009.

Chandler is down to slightly more than $202,000 for the year, from a total of more than $214,000 at the same point in 2009. That’s a decrease of 5.58 percent.

Athens, the No. 1 collector of the sales tax, remains ahead of last year with receipts of $2.22 million — a 4.52 percent increase.

And the 16 collecting entites combined have totaled $4.738 million to-date in 2010, up 3.1 percent from $4.595 million at the same point last year.
