House demolitions to begin this month in Chandler
CHANDLER — Demolition of uninhabitable houses here is scheduled to begin within days, and city administrator Jim Moffeit said property owners still have time to submit their requests.
“I have a couple of spaces left. We’re going to start taking them down by the end of this month, so we need to hear from people as soon as possible.”
Up to seven houses are expected to be torn down as part of Chandler’s codeenforcement program. The city is entering its third year of a contract with Sanitation Solutions of Paris, which allows that company to demolish the houses. Chandler’s 2009-2010 budget allocates $7,500 for the work.
If properties aren’t up to code and cannot be salvaged, owners may ask the city to demolish them at no cost to them. Chandler is responsible for disconnecting sewer and water hookups. Property owners must disconnect any other utilities on their lots.
Sanitation Solutions uses its equipment and manpower, and the city pays a perton fee for landfill dumping.
