BISD teachers to attend summer institute

Epperson Epperson Two Brownsboro teachers have been selected to participate in a summer teacher institute sponsored by Humanities Texas, Texas Christian University and TCU’s Center for Texas Studies.

Julie Wooten, who teaches world and U.S. history at Brownsboro High School, and Loralea Epperson, who teaches English and language arts/ESL also at Brownsboro High School, will attend “Shaping the American Republic to 1877” on the TCU campus in Fort Worth in June.

The Fort Worth institute is one in a series of six summer institutes at major Texas universities this month. Other participating universities include Texas A&M International University, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of Houston and the University of Texas at El Paso.

Each institute will bring together 40 teachers from across Texas to participate in lectures and workshops exp loring topics in U.S. history and culture from the colonial era through Reconstruction that are central to the eighth-grade social studies curriculum.

Wooten Wooten Educational specialists from the National Archives and the Amon Carter Museum will also participate in the institute, providing teachers facsimiles of historic documents and works of art that support the teaching of U.S. history and government.

“Humanities Texas is delighted to include two impressive teachers from Brownsboro in this educational endeavor,” said Executive Director Michael L. Gillette. “Bringing teachers together to learn from leading scholars and from each other is an effective way to ensure that Texas students continue to receive the best possible educational opportunities.”
