DKG members attend convention

Courtesy Photo Seven members from Kappa Pi Chapter left Chandler June 17 for the 81st state convention of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International in Waco.

Dr. Vicki Davis, Texas state president for 2009- 2011, presided over the convention.

Keynote speakers included Mark Hoog, author of the “Growing Field” children’s leadership book series, Helaine Jesse, vice president from Western Nevada College, and Lisa Wingate, nationally renowned author.

A special musical event Friday night featured Joyce convention

Jones and Kurt Kaiser.

Kaiser’s musical compositions are found in many hymnals. Jones is professor of organ, and is organist in residence at Baylor University. He has been featured in concerts all over the world.

Workshop opportunities provided training for new chapter officers, and courses for CPE credits and personal development.

Six Kappa Pi members served as table hostesses at the Friday birthday luncheon and the Saturday night president’s banquet. During the convention, Kappa Pi Chapter received the Tudor Rose Award for increased membership, awards for their yearbook and newsletter, and an Annie Award for an Outstanding Program.

Lynda McQuaid accepted the Key Award presented to The Chandler & Brownsboro Statesman for excellence in coverage of local chapter news.

Only three Key awards were presented to Texas newspapers. The other two are The Carrizo Springs Javelin and The Wills Point Chronicle.
