Basketball camp held last week

Loyd Cook Photo The annual Bears basketball camp was held last week, with about 85 youngsters participating, according to new head basketball coach Tobin Reid.

They competed in various skills drills, as well as in age-level appropriate team tournaments. They campers were split into a 9-and-under league and one made up of the older youngsters from the seventh, eighth and ninth grade levels.

9 and under

In the team tournament competition, the Lakers took the championship after defeating the Spurs in the opening round, the Cavs in the second round and the Mavs in the title game.

The Lakers were comprised of: Austin Loosier, Jalysis Bradley, Trenton Sebesta, Raiden Simons, Andrew Flynn, Nicholas Shacklett and Chandler Starkey.

Loyd Cook Photo The Mavericks, the second place finisher, were made up of: Kagan Caldwell, Jonathon Surlet, Tucker Boyd, Alex Wood, Scott Passons and Garrett Bright.

The Cavs, losers to eventual champion Lakers in the second round, took on the Longhorns, which had fallen at the hands of the Mavs, in what was the third place game in the tournament. The Cavs won that game.

The Cavs were made up of: Hunter Hutchins, Trey Booth, Conner Smith, Isaac Strickland, Seth Boss, Stephen Edwards, and Trenton Johnson.

The Longhorns, who took fourth place, were made up of: Carson Booth, Anthony Harden, Noah Daughtry, Cameron Farmer, Chris Simons and Christian Ryan.

Other teams and their players competing in this division were:

• The Bulls: Cole Williams, Brenan Kirkpatrick, Bryce Smith, Jonah Grilbert, James Dixon, Landon Finkie and Noah Sissom.

• The Spurs: Gage Wehrmann, Jairus Bradley, Christian Flynn, Brandon DeZavala, Xaine Simon and Cameron Kindrick.

In the skills competitions, the results as provided by camp organizers were as follows:

7-year-olds

Hot Shot - Conner Smith, first; Brennan Kirkpatrick, second; Andrew Flynn, third; Trey Booth, fourth; Raiden Simons, fifth.

Free Throws - Conner Smith, first; Raiden Simons, second; Tanner Johnson, third; Christian Ryan, fourth; Trey Booth, fifth.

Layups - Connor Smith, first; Tucker Boyd, second; Andrew Flynn, third; Christian Ryan, fourth; Raiden Simons, fifth.

8-year-olds

Hot Shot - Noah Sissom, first; Gage Wehrmann, second; Noah Daughtry, third; Carson Booth, fourth; Isaac Strickland, fifth.

Free throws - Gage Wehrmann, first; Isaac Strickland, second; Noah Daughtry, third; Carson Booth, fourth; Chris Simon, fifth.

Layups - Carson Booth, first; Noach Sissom, second; Gage Wehrmann, third; Isaac Strickland, fourth; Seth Boss, fifth.

9-year-olds

7th, 8th & 9th graders

There was limited information available on this group.

The Celtics were the tournament champions with the Mavs taking second place and the Cav’s Gold squad taking third. There were no player rosters available.

In the skills competition, there were results released from three unidentified levels of two competitions.

Level 1, Hot Shots - Cody Pahlon, first; Justin Carnahan, second; Parker Owen Third.

Level 1, 1-on-1 - Joey Boyd, first; Caleb Seale, second; Jake Hutchins, third.

Level 2, Hot Shot - Tucker Thompson, first; Trace Crocker, second; Kyle McClean, third.

Level 2, 1-on-1 - Kyle McClean, first; Trace Crocker, second; Christian Reeves, third.

Level 3, Hot Shot - Clay McCoy, first; Matt Smiley, second; Braylon Wherman, third.
