James Calvin Moffeit

Funeral services for James Calvin “J.C.” Moffeit, 86, of Brownsboro, were on June 28, 2010, at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home, with Bro. John Parker officiating.

Burial followed at Edom City Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

J.C. passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2010, in Tyler. He was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Greer County Okla., to J.B. and Nannie Frances Sevier Moffeit.

He came to Texas with his father at an early age and was raised near Brownsboro by his parents, J.B. and Era Fay Rowan Moffeit.

He attended Brownsboro schools before serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps, or as he called it, The Tree Army.

He served with honor during World War II on the front lines in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe, and received many awards, including the EAME Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and two Overseas Service Bars.

He was in many battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. He returned home to Texas after the war and began a family.

He soon went to Oklahoma for work as a foreman with the Steel Hangers Union. After his retirement, he returned to Brownsboro, where he was able to renew old friendships and enjoy his senior years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Carla Jan Moffeit in 1956, a brother, Dr. Thomas Moffeit of Oklahoma, and a sister, Patsy Kidd of Chandler.

He is survived by two sons, Jerry Moffeit and wife, Maria, of Waxahachie, and Larry Moffeit and wife, Peggy, of Bullard; four daughters, Helen Watkins and husband, Robert, of Fort Worth, Kay Riggs and husband, Jackie, of Denton, Donna Lea and husband, Sandy, of Fort Worth, and Ann Wymack and husband, Mark, of Fort Worth; two brothers, Jim Moffeit and wife, Sharon, of Chandler and Danny Moffeit and wife, Gwen, of Brownsboro; two sisters, Jeannie Myers of Lufkin and Cheryl Chapmon and husband, Dewey, of Wells; a sister-in- law, June Moffeit of Tulsa, Okla; a brother in-law, Buster Kidd of Chandler; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; former wife, Naomi Moffeit of Brownsboro; and mother of the children, Eunice Cotton of Fort Worth.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Larry Moffeit Jr., Daniel Moffeit, Jackie Michael Riggs, Brandon Davis, Charlie Sutton and Chad Sutton.
