While forgetting God, America faces danger

Rev. Lee Evans

“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” — Psalm 9:17

God is a God of grace and mercy, but He is also a God of justice and truth.

He loves us (John 3:16) but we have to accept it. If we reject His love, there are consequences (John 3:17).

What is true for individuals is true for nations as well. God has blessed our great nation in days gone by and I pray He will bless us in the future.

However, the truth is our nation has rejected God’s ways and as a result, we are in danger.

Our president has announced to the world that we are no longer a Christian nation. While I and many others disagree with him on that point, I will admit he has a point.

Many Americans are quick to “embrace” Christianity when it is convenient, but they are slow to practice it in everyday life. Many professing Christians live like atheists.

As a result of this disconnect between our talk and our walk, our nation is headed down the wide road that leads to destruction.

Our nation, its people and its leaders are running away from God and our nation’s Judeo-Christian heritage. Many in academia, the media and political elites are attempting to re-write our nation’s history.

They argue our nation is not and never was a Christian one.

When you and I hear someone say that we do not have a Christian heritage, they are proving their own ignorance or bias.

The Declaration of Independence tells us our founders believed God gave them their rights, not the king of England: “We hold these truths to be selfevident: That all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. That among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

James Madison, the fourth president of our country, said:

“We have staked the whole future of American civilization not on the power of government, far from it. We have staked the future of all our political institutions upon the capacity of each and all of us … to govern ourselves according to the commandments of God.

The future and success of America is not in this Constitution, but in the Laws of God upon which this Constitution was founded.”

George Washington, our first president, said: “It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible.”

Father, forgive us of our stubborn rebellion to You Forgive us for forgetting You.

God, heal our land, change our hearts and save us from ourselves.
