Master Gardeners to host York during workshop
Jackson York
Chef Jackson York of the Edom Bakery and Grill is scheduled to speak tonight at a Henderson County Master Gardeners workshop at the East Texas Arboretum.
York’s presentation will focus on making a summer “cooler” using herbs and some creative vegetable carving.
York has been cooking all of his life and became a certified fhef four years ago. This year, he is one of three chefs to qualify for the Texas Chef of the Year Award by the American Culinary Federation.
He said two of the qualifi cations for being eligible include community involvement and being an all around “good egg” — not to mention rave reviews of the gourmet fare served in the Edom Bakery and Grill.
York’s community involvement this year has focused on promoting mentorship and the culinary arts program in high schools in Canton, LaPoyner and Van.
York’s schedule this Fall will include working on a program to promote healthy eating in an elementary school in Tyler.
Free samples and recipes are on the menu for this fourth workshop of the Summers Series offered by the Henderson County Master Gardeners.
The workshops are cosponsored by the East Texas Arboretum and the Trinity Valley Community College Community Services department.
