Work progresses on BHS Bear Stadium improvements
The new concession stand at Bear Stadium
The framework of a new concession stand near Bear Stadium has begun, and other improvements are still expected to be complete by late August, Brownsboro Independent School District Superintendent Elton Caldwell said.
“It’s coming along pretty well. They’ve got some steel laying out there for the bleachers, and the concrete work is done. The slab for the tennis courts has been poured.”
Officials in April approved installing artificial turf, adding a new concession stand, renovating dressing rooms, adding 1,360 seats on the home side of the stadium, building tennis courts, and installing a new scoreboard.
Graduating seniors received their diplomas on the new turf in June. Work on the tennis courts may not be done by the time school starts on Aug. 23.
The additional stadium seats will be added in front of each 10-yard line. New tennis courts will be built between Brownsboro Intermediate School and the baseball fields, and a concession stand and restrooms are being built on the west side of the stadium, on the north end of the practice tennis court.
A sidewalk is being built between the new concession stand and the stadium.
The district is paying for the work from its fund balance or maintenance budget or both.
During football games, students and fans regularly watch from outside seating areas on grass, in parking lots, and near State Highway 31 behind the north end of the football field.
Cars are parked in front of businesses, around Brownsboro Elementary School and Brownsboro Junior High School, and in residential areas nearby.
The stadium work was financed separately from tax revenue expected from a November election to pay for one new campus and improvements to others.
