Chandler City Council attempts to ‘bypass’ voters
I was at the Chandler City Council meeting on July 13 when they passed an intent to issue certificates of obligation.
In other words, that is their way of raising your taxes without the approval of the taxpayers of the city of Chandler.
I spoke and asked the council not to do it this way and run over the people, and that I thought it would be better to pass a bond through the election process.
That way, the people may give their approval instead of the council doing it. I always thought the American way was to let the people paying the bill have a say in the matter.
This will be the first for Chandler and I think the whole county.
There is a way to force an election — if someone is willing to get a petition signed by five percent of the registered voters in Chandler and present this to the council before 30 days.
If this were to happen, the council would, by law, be forced to have an election. This should happen. If not, then every time they want money, they will bypass the people.
