“The parents will get to watch their daughters dance ... after the parent meeting, and the girls are invited to do their dance at the Sept. 10 pregame with the Golden Girls,” the Golden Girls Booster Club president said. “On Sept. 25 ... the Golden Girls will host their fourth annual Gold Rush car show.”

The clinic on Sept. 4 is for girls in kindergarten through sixth grade, from 9 a.m. to noon, at Brownsboro Intermediate School. Three weeks later, Golden Girls will host its car show at Brownsboro High School.

“We will have food, games, vendors and entertainment for the day,” Blakely said. “We will be giving away door prizes as well as trophies to the winning participants. The car show is the Golden Girls biggest fundraiser of the year.”

Last year, contests and a 15th award were added to the event.

The Justin Bynum Memorial award was created to honor the 19-year-old Grace Community School graduate who died in June 2009 following a car accident near Winnsboro.

About 40 vehicles were shown at the fundraiser. Contests were new to the event. They included games called “panty dash,” “kill it and coast,” and “street sweeper.”

“The Golden Girls compete on many levels after the football season is over,” Blakely said. “We are currently working to raise money for a trip at the end of the school year for the girls.”

Kathryn Hernholm is the team’s new director. She comes to Brownsboro from Hallsville High School, where she was assistant director of the national champion Bobcat Belles drill team.

Last year, Hernholm also was director and choreographer for the East Texas Baptist University Tigerline dance team in Marshall.

She is a 2004 graduate of Hallsville High, where she was captain of the Bobcat Belles. After graduation, she worked as a choregrapher for Showtime International.

Since, she has taught dances for high schools and dance studios across Texas.

Hernholm attended Texas State University, where she graduated summa cum laude with a major in dance education and a minor in communication.

While attending Texas State, she was a line officer for two years and veteran Strutter of the Year in 2007. As a strutter, Hernholm traveled and performed in Greece and Turkey.

Hernholm replaces Debbie Morton, who after four years as director has taken the same job at Keller High School.

“Her family all lives in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and she wanted to get back home,” Blakely said. “She was offered a director’s job at Keller High School working under one of her old directors for the first year, then taking over for her when she leaves.”

Admission prices apply to the clinic and car show.
