Public hearing scheduled on proposed tax rate
CHANDLER — A pair of public hearings have been scheduled on this city’s proposed increase on ad valorem taxes for the new fiscal year to begin on Oct. 1.
“We’ve set the tax rate at .43, because home values have dropped,” city administrator Jim Moffeit said.
The new rate would increase from this fiscal year’s rate of .398. In 2008-2009, the rate was .372.
“The average taxable value of a residence homestead in Chandler last year was $129,620,” according to city documents. “Based on last year’s tax rate of $.398995 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed last year on the average home was $517.18.”
The effective rate this year is .39.
“The average taxable value of a residence homestead in Chandler this year is $127,100,” city documents say. “If the governing body adopts the effective tax rate for this year of $.392505 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $498.87.
“If the governing body adopts the proposed tax rate of $.432741 per $100 of taxable value, the amount of taxes imposed this year on the average home would be $550.01.”
The first hearing is set for Thursday, at 6 p.m., at City Hall. The other is scheduled for Sept. 2, at 6 p.m.
