Seafood grill expected to open in weeks
CHANDLER — KT’s Seafood Grill is expected to open here by October after the Chandler Area Economic Development Corporation agreed to contribute $9,000 toward resolving drainage problems at the property on State Highway 31.
“They’ve already spent a lot of money getting it up to snuff, adding gas and meeting (American Disabilities Act) requirements,” city administrator Jim Moffeit said. “I think it will be open in 30 to 45 days.”
Kevin Theppharaj is opening the new restaurant in the building that used to house Stone Bros. Coffee. Operated by Carey Crist and Lance Dunton, the shop has been closed for more than two years.
“It’s mostly going to be dine-in,” Moffeit said. “He thinks he has room for 12 tables. They think they’ll have a pretty good variety of food. People will also be able to call in and pick up their orders at a window, but they won’t have a drivethru.”
Theppharaj did not immediately respond to questions about the restaurant.
Chandler City Council member Ann Hall said she’s excited about the development.
“I’m looking forward to having a new business in our community. The city has worked hard to bring more economic development to our area, so I’m glad the (Chandler Area Economic Development Corporation) and City Council voted to support KT’s Seafood Grill with some infrastructure money.”
Moffeit said Theppharaj’s relatives also own a store by the same name in Rusk.
