Brownsboro Auto Service has invested $9,000 to add a new lift (above) which will let owner Dustin McLean (working below) offer oil changes. The addition of two more full- time employees will also help expand services..
PHOTOS BY A.J. CRISP BROWNSBORO — Brownsboro Auto Service not only offers new and used tire services, air-conditioning services, and state inspections, but now they also offer oil changes to customers.
“We started doing oil changes on July 18,” owner Dustin McLean said. “We painted the building at the end of June. That was the first step in the process. We still have just a few more things to do.”
McLean said he spent right at $9,000 to get the lift installed to be able to offer oil change services.
“Counting the concrete, electrical, lift, and supplies, it totaled right at $9,000,” he said. “I had the concrete poured, and I imagine after the day they came and poured the concrete, it took me about three weeks to get the lift up, get the power running to it and get all the supplies for it.”
McLean, a Brownsboro native and graduate, said they are going to start offering battery services in addition to all of the other services they provide.
“We offer oil change service, new tire service, used tire service, state inspections, we do air-conditioning service,” McLean said. “When it comes to an inspection, there's so many things we're checking for the safety inspection that most people might not be aware of. We're checking your wiper blades, make sure all of your lights are working properly, we're checking your brakes. There's a lot of things people are already getting as a service that they may not know they're getting. We're making sure their car doesn't have anything wrong they're not aware of.”
In addition to those services, Brownsboro Auto Service also offers air filtration replacement, battery maintenance, fuel filter replacement, light bulb replacement, oil and gas caps, PCV valves, radiator antifreeze and coolant service, serpentine belt replacement, tire repairs, tire rotation, wiper blade replacement, and 30,000, 60,000 and 90,000 mile warranty service, as well as others.
With the addition of the lift, and with the addition of two more full-time employees, McLean looks forward to offering teachers and faculty at Brownsboro schools a type of concierge service.
“I look forward to being able to offer teachers and faculty at the schools to have their cars picked up by us, brought down here, do whatever services they want and take it back to the school, so they don't have to time on their day off to get those services done,” he said. “If they call us in the morning, we can pick up their keys at the school, they tell us what they want done, we can go up there, pick up their keys, get the work done and get the car back up there. I intend on doing that for no extra charge.
“The way I look at it is, I grew up here, I went to school here, so there's no reason why I couldn't do that. I brought up more employees so that I could have enough people to leave to do things like that and do service calls. I think it's important to offer a service like that because it makes the convenience of being in the town that much more convenient whenever they don't even have to drive down here because they work here locally.”
McLean now has four full-time employees, including himself. He also has three others on “standby” who can come help if he needs it, his brother, father and uncle.
Business has already picked up since Brownsboro Auto Service has started offering oil changes, and he expects it to continue to get even more busy via word-ofmouth and he's preparing to put up a big sign that includes their services offered and hours.
“I can do oil changes on probably 95 percent of vehicles in this area,” McLean said. “I can do diesels, too. I thought at first I wouldn't be able to do diesel oil changes, but I am able to do that.”
He originally thought they wouldn't be able to offer diesel oil changes until early 2012, but he was able to get all the necessary work done to offer diesel services.
McLean and his wife, Julie, have a daughter, Ayva, who is four months old. McLean proudly displays pictures of his daughter hanging up in his office as well as on his desktop on the computer.
