A eropostale is having a nationwide contest to see which school can raise new or gently used jeans to recycle and give to needy teens. The winning school will receive $5,000 and every student will get a new pair of jeans. Brownsboro High School’s student council is doing this event as one of its spring projects, and would like to really make it big. If you would like to donate any new or gently used jeans, bring them to Brownsboro High School. The contest ends February 12. C handler Nursing Center has five gently used walkers that have accumulated over time. “We would like to extend an offer to those in need of a walker in our community to stop by our rehab department and pick up a walker. There are only five available so it's first come, first serve,” Cherish Cooley said.

The dance is a benefit for the Westside Volunteer Fire Department to help it retire the fire truck note. Music will be played by the Cottonpickers. Held from 6-10 p.m. the cost is $5 per person with children 10-under free. Refreshments will be sold while alcohol and smoking is not allowed. Saturday will be held at the Chandler Community Center on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Directors Orlanda Moore and Nakia Muhammad will be the guest of the Rose City Team as they will be providing information about an opportunity that will allow an individual the opportunity to begin their walk to wealth. Guests will be provided strategies and information that they can share with individuals they meet. They will also learn techniques that are best practices in a network marketing environment. A rea agricultural producers will have the opportunity to complete training and testing to meet the requirements for obtaining a private applicator license at a program scheduled for Friday, March 2 at the Trinity Valley Community College Ranch Management Building in Athens.
The cost of the training will be $10 a person and will begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by the testing. Producers interested in the program should call the Extension office at 903-675-6130 by 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28 to pre-register.
To become a licensed private applicator, a producer must attend a Texas AgriLife Extension Service private applicator training program, make a passing score on a Texas Department of Agriculture Private Applicator examination and submit an application to T. D. A. along with a required $60 fee. The T. D. A. private applicator license is valid for five years.
Class participants are required to purchase a Private Applicator Certification Packet which includes the most current “Private Applicator Manual” and the most current educational programs of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service are open to all.

TDA requires license candidates to provide proof of identification before examinations will be administered. Acceptable forms of ID are valid Drivers Licenses, official military identification, or state ID cards. M eals on Wheels in Chandler is in need of volunteer drivers. Positions are open Monday-Thursday for about three hours each day. Drivers need to be dedicated to delivering meals to area seniors. There will be no smoking inside the community center. Contributions will be accepted to cover any expenses. Coat Drive is in full swing. The white boxes with red writing are set up at the Statesman office in Chandler and the former Statesman office in Brownsboro. The goal of the drive is to cover every back in the area with a new or gently used coat, male or female, from newborns to adults. Organizers will be at the church every Monday and Friday from 6-7 p.m. to accept donations and give out coats to those who are without.
