Bearettes win district opener

Teams opened District 15-3A play Tuesday with the Brownsboro Bearettes playing host to Canton in an extra inning game.

Baylee McCurley scored the winning run in the bottom of the 12th off the bat of Karli Wilkerson as Brownsboro won a thriller 1-0.

Madison Timmerman recorded the win for Brownsboro as the Bearettes improved to 9-4-1 on the season and 1-0 in district play.

McCurley finished the game with three hits, including a double. MJ Alexander and Shelbie Bagby each had two hits.

Elsewhere in district, Van's Nicole Gandy threw a no-hitter against Mabank in a 15-0 Vandal victory. Mineola topped Athens 6-0.

Brownsboro will play at Athens on Friday. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
